About

Let your light shine

Hello, my name is Nikky

I am the owner and designer behind Pomp & Sass. Inspired and transformed by the birth of my daughter Fern, I look to be a positive influence in the world. For me that means pursuing my passion of entrepreneurship, developing this beautiful product that is both functional and making positive change.

My values of equality, supporting my community and self care are the foundation of Pomp & Sass. I’m proud of this journey and invite you to join me in support of others to live their best lives, too.

Kind regards,

Nikky Starrett

Indigenous Land Acknowledgement

We would like to acknowledge the land on which we work and operate as it is part of the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit. We acknowledge the territory of the Anishinabek, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Ojibway/Chippewa peoples; the land that is home to the Metis; and most recently, the territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation who are direct descendants of the Mississaugas of the Credit. As settlers on this land, it is our privilege and responsibility to pay respect and to recognize our colonial histories and present-day implications. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land, and by doing so, give our respect to its first inhabitants. We acknowledge that we are responsible for the environmental impact we make and to take responsibility for our duty to protect and sustain this land.

Our Social Responsibility

ETHICALLY MADE

Towels are made by a family company in Turkey that values the lives and safety of their workers. They are paid fairly, in a safe, clean environment. Working hours are ethical and fair. OEKO-TEX certification ensures that production is free of any harmful chemicals and safe for human use.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

Pomp & Sass towels are plastic free and take little water to clean. Packaging has been minimized with environmentally sustainable replacements used whenever possible. Our corporate structure also works to minimize our carbon footprint.

CHARITABLE GIVING

We donate a portion of profits to charity as we work to support the UN Sustainable Development Goal of Good Health & Wellbeing.

We listen, hear, see, stand for and speak out for equality. We also actively work towards self improvement, accountability and healing. The fundamental truth of equality is a guide to many of our decisions. Our hearts are full of love and our annual diversity audit will support our journey and the journeys we interact with.

It’s not enough that Pomp & Sass is committed to equality, we also built it into the way we do business. This is done on a social and environmental freedom so that our future generations can come together united. Our eco-product and sustainability commitments honour the land we are privileged to work on and the land our supplies are derived from. We openly thank the Indigenous First Nations of Canada as well as use materials to keep the land safe. Our manufacturer is a family run, fair trade business that supports local women with employment. In Canada we hire above minimum wage and advocate the physical and mental health of our workers. We give a portion of profits to charities championing good health and wellbeing. Our founder has capped her earning potential which cannot be raised unless all workers receive equal pay increase. This cap on income is to avoid wage disparity which can undermine the integrity of our working space. The campaigns and ads we use are inclusive and celebrate diversity. We hire on merit and ensure our hiring options include people from all walks of life.

Our intention behind our actions is to create a space where everyone is welcome and safe. This includes the people who benefit now as well as generations to come who want to continue to enjoy our beautiful planet. We see the progress we have to make and accept the work it will take to improve. We acknowledge our role and are doing our best with the resources we have access to. Pomp & Sass was made to be a positive influence in the world. This is exactly what we intend to do.

Environmentally Friendly Packaging

Packaging

When it comes packaging we have a less-is-more approach and are supporting the disruption of traditional product packaging. Pomp & Sass has eliminated all product packaging with the exception of our product cards which are made entirely of sugar cane. Fully compostable, we recommend using it as inspirational art before disposal. As a side note, these cards are purchased from a female owned business in Turkey.

Note: We are bound to use a poly bag for shipping. Although it’s not ideal we do have our eyes set on replacing it with another biodegradable earth friendly option once we can afford the initial capital investment. Until then, we recommend recycling this plastic.

Mail Bags

Noissue mail bags are used in two of our three eco friendly warehouse facilities. These bags are double use and certified compostable.

Fulfilment Centres

We currently work with three fulfilment centres in Canada. Our primary is a local couple working in a sustainable low-waste space. Our secondary centre is environmentally conscious and committed to reducing waste and emissions. Our third centre has a strong green commitment and has made a commitment to grouping products and using renewable shipping supplies.  To protect the safety of our affiliates we have agreed not to publish the names of these three facilities
