I’m excited about the summer and want to share what’s happening at Pomp&Sass studios!
The flowers are finally here! That means you can usually spot me outside taking pictures of every bloom and blossom I can reach. So far I’ve collected over a hundred designs worth of photographs to expand on my photographic repeat inventory. Just like the the one on this newsletter featuring pink crabapple blossoms!
Did you know that photographic repeats are incredibly difficult to create? Yep! It’s a tough skills I’ve been working on, to accommodate the growing demand. With the increase of digital printing on home goods like upholstery, linen and paper it’s no wonder photographs are popular. They look so good!
Here’s how I do it. It starts with good natural lighting and fresh flowers. I use a high definition camera and take as many photos I can from angles that will visually relate to each other. The best shots are sent into an Adobe Photoshop file where. There I remove elements of the photos that are not required such as the background. What’s left is edited, cleaned and adjusted before placed into a repeating tile. Background colour is selected last. Each of these designs takes several hours to create. No photo is ever used in other designs to ensure each design remains completely original. It’s no wonder most people don’t do this sort of things. It’s a lot of work!
